Gilt Trip (A Scrapbooking Mystery) Hardcover

Louisiana businessman Jerry Earl Leland served only a fraction of his five-year sentence for white-collar crime, thanks to some political connections and a few greased palms. But he won’t have long to enjoy his freedom.

The guest list includes many prominent New Orleans socialites, as well as scrapbook shop owner Carmela Bertrand and her best friend, Ava Gruiex. But sometime during the swirl of partying and drinking, Jerry Earl is brutally murdered — then stuffed inside a clothes dryer.

Carmela has earned a reputation around town for solving murders, and when the grieving widow turns to her for help, she can’t say no. But Jerry Earl took a lot of people to the cleaners with his underhanded business tactics, so Carmela’s going to be hard-pressed to identify which of his enemies was steamed enough to kill him. As she sorts through Jerry Earl’s dirty laundry, she needs to collar the killer before another victim is set to tumble dry.

Gone (Michael Bennett) Hardcover

A crime lord has declared war on America. Only Detective Michael Bennett knows why.

Manuel Perrine doesn't fear anyone or anything. A charismatic and ruthless leader, Perrine slaughters rivals as effortlessly as he wears his trademark white linen suit. Detective Michael Bennett once managed to put Perrine behind bars, the only official in the US ever to accomplish that. But now Perrine is out, and he has sworn to find and kill Bennett and everyone dear to him.

Detective Bennett, along with his ten adopted children, their nanny, and his grandfather, are hidden safely on a rural California farm, with guards courtesy of the FBI's witness protection program. Perrine begins to embark on an escalating series of assassinations across the country, killings whose brazenness and audacity bring into question the possibility of safety and law in the US. The FBI has no choice but to ask Detective Bennett to risk it all in Perrine's war on America.

With explosive action and fierce villainy that rivals James Bond movies at their best, GONE is the next astounding novel by James Patterson.

Something Borrowed, Someone Dead: An Agatha Raisin Mystery Hardcover

Gloria French was a jolly widow with dyed blonde hair, a raucous laugh and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswolds hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back, just small things, a teapot here, a set of silverware there. So it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered by a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine. Afraid the murder will be a blight on the small town, Parish councillor, Jerry Tarrant, hires private detective Agatha Raisin to track down the murderer.  But the village is secretive and the residents resent Agatha's investigation. Of course that doesn't stop the ever-persistent Agatha from investigating and sticking her nose where no one wants it — especially as the suspect list grows. And, as if it isn't enough that Agatha's ex has reentered the picture, the murderer is now targeting Agatha!

Carla Neggers Declan's Cross Blog Tour with Q/A and Review

I am so excited to have Carla Neggers here at Mystery Thrillers and Romantic Suspense Reviews with a Review

Thanks Carla and Veronica at Meryl L. Media Relations Inc. for allowing me to join your Declan Cross Blog Tour!

 Please take it away, Carla!

1. You started writing at age 11 up in a sugar maple tree. Your blog, Out on a Limb, honors these humble, idyllic beginnings. What kind of books did you write up in the tree? Is that tree still standing?

My favorite sugar maple is still on our family tree farm on the western edge of the Quabbin reservoir! I haven’t climbed it since college, though. It’s a beautiful tree in autumn especially. I wrote tales of romance and suspense up there. The first one I finished is called The Bronze Buddha. An archaeology student making ends meet cleaning motel rooms (my first job, not incidentally!) discovers a dead body in a room she is set to clean. Off we go from there.

2. What enticed you to switch over from contemporary romance to romantic suspense?

I’m all about getting the story that’s in my head onto the page. My Sharpe & Donovan novels are about two FBI agents who grew up within a few miles of each other on the southern Maine coast but in very different worlds. Their relationship and their work are at the heart of SAINT’S GATE, HERON’S COVE and now DECLAN’S CROSS.

3. Why did you choose law enforcement as the career path for your heroes and heroines? (for Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan?)

Well, not all my heroes and heroines are in law enforcement, but many are. Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan are FBI agents. She’s an art crimes expert and he’s a deep-cover operative. Their work in law enforcement both enhances and complicates their relationship with each other as well as with their families, friends and colleagues. It’s all great fodder for stories! As Colin and Emma note in DECLAN’S CROSS, he has demons… and she has secrets.

4. What are you working on next?

I’m deep into HARBOR ISLAND, my next Sharpe and Donovan novel! Emma and Colin are back in Boston when Emma is lured to the body of a model for a well-known Irish artist.

About the Author

Neggers_Carla_11_col1 2
Carla Neggers is the New York Times bestselling author of more than 60 novels, with translations in 24 languages. Born and raised on the western edge of the beautiful Quabbin Reservoir in rural Massachusetts, Carla grew up with tales of her father’s life as a Dutch sailor and her mother’s childhood in northwest Florida.

At a young age, Carla began penning her own stories on a branch high up in her favorite sugar maple. Now she enjoys spending time at the family homestead (now a tree farm) with her six brothers and sisters and their families. When she’s not writing, Carla loves to travel, hike, kayak, garden, and, of course, dive into a good book. She lives with her family in Vermont, near Quechee Gorge.

An escape to an idyllic Irish seaside village is about to turn deadly in this riveting new novel by master of romantic suspense Carla Neggers

For marine biologist Julianne Maroney, two weeks in tiny Declan's Cross on the south Irish coast is a chance to heal her broken heart. She doesn't expect to attract the attention of FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan — especially since a Donovan is the reason for her broken heart.

Emma and Colin are in Ireland for their own personal retreat. Colin knows he's a reminder of everything Julianne wants to escape, but something about her trip raises his suspicion. Emma, an art crimes expert, is also on edge. Of all the Irish villages Julianne could choose…why Declan's Cross?

Ten years ago, a thief slipped into a mansion in Declan's Cross. Emma's grandfather, a renowned art detective, investigated, but the art stolen that night has never been recovered and the elusive thief never caught.

From the moment Julianne sets foot on Irish soil, everything goes wrong. The well-connected American diver who invited her to Ireland has disappeared. And now Emma and Colin are in Declan's Cross asking questions.

As a dark conspiracy unfolds amid the breathtaking scenery of Declan's Cross, the race is on to stop a ruthless killer and the stakes have never been more personal for Emma and Colin.

My Review:

This is the continuation of the complicated relationship between FBI agents Colin Donovan and Emma Sharpe.  Colin has flown to Ireland to heal from a undercover sting that went horribly wrong and Emma has come to be with Colin.  They find out a friend Julianne a marine biologist has also arrived to meet Lindsay who works at a marine station and to run away from her hurtful breakup with Colin's younger brother Andy.

Julianne discovers Lindsay's body which results in secrets being uncovered.  Emma has connection to the town because her grandfather was investigating a case where two paintings were stolen ten years ago.

Sean Murphy a Garda is also there to help but he was romantically involved with Kitty the owner of the hotel where the paintings were stolen.

New Book Releases 2013 (Sept 10)

Thankless in Death Hardcover

In the latest suspense thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, the year 2060 is drawing to a close in New York City and loved ones are coming together for Thanksgiving. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas has plenty to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke’s big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it’s a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.

Other couples aren’t as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying in their home stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned — and heartbroken by the evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn’t made a great impression on the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him — but they didn’t think he was capable of this.

Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he’s stolen from his parents and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry’s going to strike next.

Cozy, Mystery Thriller and Romantic Suspense Mail 2013 (Sept 7)

Cozy, Mystery Thriller and Romantic Suspense Mail is hosted every Saturday at Mystery Thrillers and Romantic Suspense Reviews.

I received this in the mail this week.

For Review:

Alien Hunter (Flynn Carroll) Hardcover

Alien Hunter is a searing new novel from New York Times bestselling author Whitley Strieber.

A young wife disappears in the night, never to be seen again. There is no evidence of kidnapping — in fact, everything indicates that she left on purpose. Her husband, a brilliant police detective, cannot believe this — but he also can't find her.

Flynn Carroll’s lost love becomes his obsession. He begins amassing a file of similar cases nationwide. His conclusion is unavoidable: somebody is taking people and making it look like they walked out on their own. As Flynn’s case files grow, his work comes to the attention of Special Agent Diana Glass, a member of the most secret police unit on the planet. This police force seeks the most brilliant and lethal criminals who have ever walked free — thieves and murderers from another world.

Without fully understanding what Glass and her team are doing, Flynn steps into a hidden world of extraordinary challenge and lethal danger. The job is the most difficult police assignment ever known to man, but the idea is the same — find the bad guys. Stop them.

My Review:

Morgan Rains has gone to visit her family's cabin to escape the shooting death of her husband.  She never expected to find a injured and naked man stumbling in the woods behind her cabin.

Jack Brandt is a former Navy Seal and now operates Rockfort Security with his two partners, Shane Gallagher and Max Lyon.   They handle secret contract work for the government.  Jack has been working undercover inside an organization The Real American Militia (RAM).  His cover was blown by an unknown source and he was beaten.

The action was high octave from the first page of the book till it ended with interesting characters and a believable romance between the main characters.
