Quinn [Hardcover]

I've finished "Quinn the 2nd in a trilogy by Iris Johansen.

Product Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen explores the darkest corners of the human heart as forensic sculptor Eve Duncan closes in on the killer who stole her daughter so many years ago.

As a former Navy SEAL turned cop, Joe Quinn has seen the face of evil and knows just how deadly it can be. When he first met Eve Duncan, he never expected to fall in love with a woman whose life would be defined by her dual desires to bring home her missing daughter and discover the truth behind her disappearance --- no matter how devastating. With the help of CIA agent Catherine Ling, they make a shocking discovery that sheds new light on young Bonnie’s abduction and puts Quinn squarely in the crosshairs of danger. Eve’s first love, John Gallo, a soldier supposedly killed in the line of duty, is very much alive --- and very much a threat.

Emotionally charged, with one shock after another, Quinn reveals the electricity of Joe and Eve’s first connection, and how they fell in love in the midst of haunting tragedy. As their search takes them deeper and deeper into a web of murder and madness, Joe and Eve must confront their most primal fears . . . and test their resolve to uncover the ultimate bone-chilling truth.

My Review:

Storyline:  Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan stays with her lover FBI Agent Joe Quinn as he struggles to survive stab wounds in the intensive care unit of the hospital following a confrontation with killer Paul Black. As Eve holds Joe's hands she reflects back to when they first met years ago on a child killer case in which her seven years old daughter Bonnie was abducted and assumed dead by everyone except her. Her obsession in bringing Bonnie home dead or alive she risked her life then and has many times since.

Eve's adoptive child Jane flies in from London and Catherine Ling meets her at the Milwaukee Airport where she explains how her search for her son began the events that have Joe in ICU. Black has insisted that Bonnie's biological dad John Gallo has killed her which Gallo never denied as he is unsure though he wants to believe he would not harm his child. Gallo remains free seeking proof in the Bayou that he did not murder Bonnie while Catherine Ling pursues him.

Characters:  Eve was more mature and acted older than her age when she lost Bonnie.  I loved that she has given up hope that she will find Bonnie's remains someday and is willing to risk her life to find out the truth who killed her.

I loved how Joe was very surprised to be attracted to Eve when he first met her and how he wanted to hide and protect her.  He really wanted to find Bonnie to ease her pain and she isn't even his type.

Romance: I really enjoy the romance between Joe and Eve and how their love evolved when they first met to now.

I'm really enjoying the Catherine and John Gallo scenes and their growing attraction to each other.  They make a formable team and a deadly duo to come across.  They are both loners and understand what each are going through.  Their scenes together were really steamy and hot!  Oh I can't wait until they finally admit they need each other.

Killer: We never learn who the killer is but we do find out he is cunning and a deadly adversary.  His kills are very brutal and meant to hurt.

5/5
