Deadly Heat [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Deadly Heat" the 2nd book in her Deadly series by Cynthia Eden.

For the first time in months, she longs for something other than vengeance.

He wants her . . .

Kenton's interest in Lora should be purely professional. But one fleeting kiss and he can't get her out of his mind. Her combination of strength and vulnerability makes him want to protect her, and that means solving this case - and fast. For even the passion igniting between them can't hide a terrifying truth: Lora is the next target in a murderer's sadistic, fiery game.

A vicious killer wants only . . .

My Review:

Storyline:   Lora Spade calls in the special elite unit of the FBI Serial Services Division to help catch the serial arsonist.  She doesn't let anyone mess around with her people because she lost one she loves to the arsonist.  She pulls FBI Kenton Lake from a fire and she tangles with him even though she feels an undeniable attraction to him.  She fights it and Kenton doesn't let anyone near him either ever since he lost his mom at an early age.

Characters:  All the characters were well written so it feels like you know them in real life.  Lora is such a great character because she very kick-ass and knows how to fight and spar with anyone.  She doesn't need a man to complete her and take care of her.  Kenton is such a great hero because he's a ladies man but he falls for Lora which is a complete surprise to him (very protective and possessive).  He sees a vunerability in her which makes him want to take care of her.

Romance:  Wow the romance between Lora and Kenton were hot and steamy!  You can feel the heat from the very first moment that she pulls him from the fire.  I believe their verbal confrontations are foreplay and you can feel the heat coming off of the pages.

Killer:  Wow the killer is quite brutal in his killings and definately has no remorse at all.  Has a fascination with fires ever since childhood.  He killed his parents!

ISBN-13: 978-0061895074

My Review:

I highly recommend reading "Live to Tell" the 1st in the series so you know who the main players are!

Storyline:   15 yrs ago Elsa's adopted 7 yr. old son Jeremy was kidnapped in broad daylight.  20 yrs. ago Marin gave up her son Jeremy for adoption.  Elsa is in the process of adopted 7 yr. old Renny who is scared of enclosed spaces.  What she didn't expect was her nightmares to come back to haunt her which leaves her no choice but to run with Renny and her life.  She never believed that Jeremy was dead but still alive somewhere!

Marin is dealing with the betrayal and lies of her disgraced Congressman husband and being there for her daughters.  It was her husband who was behind the kidnapping and murder of Jeremy.  When a threat is directed towards her daughter Caroline she has to decide if she is just seeking attention or not.  Lauren from "Live to Tell" is the one she runs to and seeks advice.

Characters: All of the characters were well written and you got to know them.  I really connected with Elsa and Marin!

Killer: The killer was one sick person and had no remorse or feelings about killing their victims.  You learn the early history of the killer and what happened to them to make them this way!

My Review:

Storyline:  Avery comes home to settle her dad's estate and to find out why he committed suicide.  Once she gets there she runs into her former beau Matt Stevens the country sheriff and discovers his twin Hunter has returned too.  The Stevens family hopes she gets back with Matt but Hunter is the one who intrigues her.  He gave up a law career in New Orleans to return to the town and family that deserted him.  The two of them join forces to investigate her father's past and find out a rape and murder that happened a long time ago that resulted in the wrong people being convicted.  The town isn't so perfect and they also find out about a Group calling themselves the Secret Seven who punishes any they believe who dare defy with their interests with death.

Characters:  All of the characters were well written and I really liked Hunter because he knew something was wrong with his family and he left them.

Romance:  I really enjoyed the romance between Hunter and Avery because he has always wanted her.

Also I believe that she wanted him too but was scared that he took her out of her element.  She thought Matt was safer!  I'm really glad they got together and you can feel the heat between them especially when they were fighting their attraction to each other.

Killer:  The killer was really deranged in his beliefs but could act normal in society!

ARC Review: Tick Tock (Michael Bennett) [Hardcover]

I've finished "Tick Tock" the 4th book in his Michael Bennett series by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge.

Product Description

NYC's #1 detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem--the Son of Sam, the Werewolf of Wisteria and the Mad Bomber are all back. The city has never been more terrified!

Tick -- a killer's countdown begins

A rash of horrifying crimes tears through the city, throwing it into complete chaos and terrorizing everyone living there. Immediately, it becomes clear that they are not the work of an amateur, but of a calculating, efficient, and deadly mastermind.

Tick -- Michael Bennett is on the chase

The city calls on Detective Michael Bennett, pulling him away from a seaside retreat with his ten adopted children, his grandfather, and their beloved nanny, Mary Catherine. Not only does it tear apart their vacation, it leaves the entire family open to attack.

Tock -- your time is up

Bennett enlists the help of a former colleague, FBI Agent Emily Parker. As his affection for Emily grows into something stronger, his relationship with Mary Catherine takes an unexpected turn. All too soon, another appalling crime leads Bennett to a shocking discovery that exposes the killer's pattern and the earth-shattering enormity of his plan. From the creator of the #1 New York detective series comes the most volatile and most explosive Michael Bennett novel ever.

About the Author

James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977, James Patterson's books have sold more than 180 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five years, including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Mr. Patterson also writes the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels, set in San Francisco, and the top-selling New York detective series of all time, featuring Detective Michael Bennett. He writes full-time and lives in Florida with his family.

Michael Ledwidge is the author of The Narrowback, Bad Connection, and most recently, the coauthor, with James Patterson, of The Quickie, Step on a Crack, Run For Your Life, and Worst Case.

My Review:

Micheal Bennett is a NY police detective enjoying a nice vacation with his family when he gets called into the office for a bomb that was planted in NY's largest library. He also has to deal with a family making fun of and picking on his "out of the ordinary" family.

I really enjoyed reading this book (the first I have read in this series) because of the very likeable Michael who really loves his family and will do anything to protect them and it's very fast and action packed!  I had a hard time putting down the book!  Now I will have to read the other 3 books in the series!

Don't Blink [Hardcover]

I've finished "Don't Blink" by James Patterson.

Product Description

The good

New York's Lombardo's Steak House is famous for three reasons -- the menu, the clientele, and now, the gruesome murder of an infamous mob lawyer. Effortlessly, the assassin slips through the police's fingers, and his absence sparks a blaze of accusations about who ordered the hit.

The bad

Seated at a nearby table, reporter Nick Daniels is conducting a once - in - a - lifetime interview with a legendary baseball bad-boy. In the chaos, he accidentally captures a key piece of evidence that lands him in the middle of an all-out war between Italian and Russian mafia forces. NYPD captains, district attorneys, mayoral candidates, media kingpins, and one shockingly beautiful magazine editor are all pushing their own agendas --on both sides of the law.

And the dead

Back off -- or die -- is the clear message Nick receives as he investigates for a story of his own.  Heedless, and perhaps in love with his beautiful editor, Nick endures humiliation, threats, violence, and worse in a thriller that overturns every expectation and finishes with the kind of flourish only James Patterson knows.

My Review:

Storyline:   While Nick is eating luch and about to interview with a legendary baseball bad-boy when he witnesses the death of a mobster lawyer.  During the chaos Nick captures a key piece of evidence that lands him in between Italian and Russian Mafia all out war.  He received death threats which warns him to back off but he lives through humilation and violence to solve the case.

Characters:  The main characters were very likable though in order for Nick's boss to end her relationship with her fiancee she had to listen to his conversation with Nick about his infidalities and what he really thinks of her.

Romance:  Nick is hopelessly in love with his boss and I believe she is also in love with him (she won't admit it until later).  I wonder why she believed her fiance when he was caught in a sex scandal.  I really hated the fiance because he had a way of putting down people especially Nick (pretend you weren't there and totally ignore you) and he was slimy.

Killer(s):  They all had an agenda and lots of double crossing!  I actually liked some of the killers!

Undertow [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Undertow" the 1st book in her Cutter Cay series by Cherry Adair.

Product Description

SHE TAKES THE PLUNGE

Teal Williams is content with her career as a ship’s master mechanic — until Zane Cutter, the “Casanova of the Caribbean,” makes her an offer she can’t refuse: to climb on board with him for a real-life treasure hunt. Teal must help him dredge up a shipwrecked vessel containing an abundance of gold, silver, and emeralds —and she’ll claim part of the prize.

HE’S BLOWN OFF COURSE

Zane needs a mechanic — not a lover — and Teal, who can also dive, is perfect for the job. So it suits him just fine that Teal is completely immune to his charms…or so he tells himself. But with a deadly enemy in their midst — one who’s silently edging closer — Zane and Teal sink into troubled waters. Trapped in the middle of a perilous sea, they have no one to turn to but each other as they face down a danger that runs unfathomably deep — and a passion that runs even deeper…

Language: English
ISBN-10: 0312371926
ISBN-13: 978-0312371920

My Review:

Storyline:  Zane is known as a playboy though his reputation has been exaggerated.  He's good-looking, charming and successful (everyone loves him) a perfect example of perfectness.  He gets his kicks by finding amazing shipwrecks and their sunken treasures.  Along with his two brothers he's known for his amazing finds.

His current find is the Vrijheid which is the motherload of sunken finds.  He needs an experience diving team along with a flawless mechanic to take care of his junk heap of a boat and no distractions.  He wants Teal Williams, who is the daughter of his aging and sick mechanic.  She's as good as her father and mousy so she won't be a distraction.

Teal came to Cutter Cay Island out of a sense of duty to her dying father whom she has never connected with.  She never agreed to go out to sea with Zane the star of her nightly dreams since childhood. She had given herself to him years in his drunken state (it was his father's funeral that day/night) and then the next morning he tossed her out without a backwards care.  She doesn't want a replay of that night and so she defends herself with a sharp tongue and hostile attitude.

Then things take a deadly turn when Zane finds out someone tampered with his boat and both Zane and Teal have to work together to survive.

Characters:  I really loved Zane's character because he's very caring about people especially one's he love.  he will protect them with his life and he knows what he wants.  I'm glad that he didn't leave Teal alone and went after her the way he did.  Loved the way he was protective of her.  He gets along with everyone and tries not to hurt women's feelings when they are coming on to him and he isn't interested!  Loved the way he loves his boat and defends her to everyone!

At first I didn't really like Teal's attitude because I thought she was being very harsh towards Zane. Then when I found out why she was acting that way then I understood why she was like that.  I started to warm up to her.

Romance:  Zane and Teal are great together.  I really wanted Teal to open up to Zane and see what a great guy he was.  When they finally got together it was quite steamy and I was really rooting for their HEA.

In the Mail 2011 (Jan 7)

Senseless [Paperback]

Product Description

The vicious burns scarring the victims' flesh reveal the agony of their last moments. Each woman was branded with a star, then stabbed through the heart. With every death, a vengeful killer finds a brief, blissful moment of calm. But soon it's time for the bloodshed to start again. Ten years ago, Eva Rayburn and her sorority sisters were celebrating the end of the school year. That party turned into a nightmare Eva can't forget. Now she's trying to start over in her Virginia hometown, but a new nightmare has begun. Every victim is linked to her. And Detective Deacon Garrison isn't sure whether this mysterious woman needs investigating - or protecting. Only Eva's death will bring peace. Only her tortured screams will silence the rage that has been building for ten long years. Because what started that night at the sorority can never be stopped - not until the last victim has been marked for death.

Scared to death

Undertow [Mass Market Paperback]

Product Description
SHE TAKES THE PLUNGE

Teal Williams is content with her career as a ship’s master mechanic — until Zane Cutter, the “Casanova of the Caribbean,” makes her an offer she can’t refuse: to climb on board with him for a real-life treasure hunt. Teal must help him dredge up a shipwrecked vessel containing an abundance of gold, silver, and emeralds—and she’ll claim part of the prize.
