Let the Dead Sleep (Cafferty and Quinn) [Hardcover]

Product Description

An object of desire? Or of fear?

It was stolen from a New Orleans grave — the centuries - old bust of an evil man, a demonic man. It's an object desired by collectors — and by those with wickedness in their hearts.

One day, its current owner shows up at Danni Cafferty's antiques shop on Royal Street, the shop she inherited from her father. But before Danni can buy the statue, it disappears, the owner is found dead…and Danni discovers that she's inherited much more than she realized. In the store is a book filled with secret writing: instructions for defeating evil entities. She'd dismissed it as a curiosity until the arrival of this statue, with its long history of evil and even longer trail of death.

Michael Quinn, former cop and now private investigator, is a man with an unusual past. He believes that doing the right thing isn't a job — it's a way of life. And the right thing to do is find and destroy this object weighted with malevolent powers. He and Danni are drawn together in their search for the missing statue, following it through sultry New Orleans nights to hidden places in the French Quarter and secret ceremonies on abandoned plantations.

Cafferty and Quinn already know that trust in others can be misplaced, that love can be temporary. And yet their connection is primal. Mesmerizing. They also know that their story won't end when this case is closed and the dead rest in peace once again.

My Review:

Daphne Montgomery is a prosecutor in Baltimore who has overcome a tragic past to build a normal and safe life for son and herself.  She has recently help convict a killer but then she hears the horrible news that he son has been kidnapped.

Both Daphne and Joe believe it's connected to her recent case but as they investigate further they realize it runs deeper and more troubling than that.

Daphne confronts her tragic past which changes close relationships to help her uncover the truth behind her son's kidnapping.

I really enjoyed the romance between Daphne and Joe because you can sense how much they care for each other and the attraction between them is intense and tender.

Glad to see Alex all grown up from "Nothing to Fear" and working for Clay with his technical skills.

It was cool to see Vito Ciccotelli from "Die For Me" involved in the case too.  Glad to hear that Sophie is 8 months pregnant and helps uncovering a mass grave.

To me the mystery was kind of off (kind of hard to explain) and it never explained why one of the villains was obsessed with Daphne.

I cried for Stevie and Clay and I hope they have their HEA soon!

Murder & Mayhem in Goose Pimple Junction [Paperback]

I've finished "Murder and Mayhem in Goose Pimple Junction" by Amy Metz.

Product Description

Murder & Mayhem In Goose Pimple Junction is a humorous southern mystery set in a unique town full of quirky residents. Grab a glass of sweet tea and settle in. You'll be laughing and guessing until the very end of this thoroughly entertaining novel.

When Tess Tremaine starts a new life in the colorful town of Goose Pimple Junction, she thinks she's moved to a quiet little burg. Curiosity leads her to look into a seventy-five-year-old murder, and suddenly she's learning the foreign language of southern speak, resisting her attraction to local celebrity Jackson Wright, and dealing with more mayhem than she can handle.

If brains were dynamite, Willy couldn't blow his nose. Could a murderer be that stupid? Jack can charm the dew right off the honeysuckle. Surely a fine southern gentleman isn't a murderer. But Tess is determined to find out, and Goose Pimple Junction will never be the same.

A bank robbery, murder, and family tragedy from the 1930s are pieces of the mystery, which Tess attempts to solve in this cozy mystery. As she gets close to the truth, she encounters danger, mystery, a lot of southern charm, and a new temptation for which she's not sure she's ready.

My Review:

Tess Tremaine moves to Goose Pimple Junction to start a new life.  She moves into an old Victorian and soon is involved in a 75 year old murder mystery.  As she digs deeper she discovers it starts with a bank robbery, murder and a family tragedy set in the 1930's.

She meets some interesting characters especially Jack Wright a handsome local writer that all the women would want in real life since he's smart and funny.  She fights her attraction to Jack for a long time but he's patience with her and finally she succumbs to it.

I loved all the slang/southernisms used because I thought it was funny and I managed to translate what was being said.  I thought it was pretty funny that Jack had to translate to Tess what was being said.

I think it's interesting this book is based on real events that happened but wasn't solved.

Notorious Nineteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel [Hardcover]

I've finished "Notorious Nineteen" the 19th book in her Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

Product Description

New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is certain of three truths: People don’t just vanish into thin air. Never anger old people. And don’t do what Tiki tells you to do.

After a slow summer of chasing low-level skips for her cousin Vinnie’s bail bonds agency, Stephanie Plum finally lands an assignment that could put her checkbook back in the black. Geoffrey Cubbin, facing trial for embezzling millions from Trenton’s premier assisted-living facility, has mysteriously vanished from the hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Now it’s on Stephanie to track down the con man. Unfortunately, Cubbin has disappeared without a trace, a witness, or his money-hungry wife. Rumors are stirring that he must have had help with the daring escape or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive. Since the hospital staff’s lips seem to be tighter than the security, and it’s hard for Stephanie to blend in to assisted living, Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur goes in undercover. But when a second felon goes missing from the same hospital, Stephanie is forced into working side by side with Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, in order to crack the case.

The real problem is, no Cubbin also means no way to pay the rent. Desperate for money or maybe just desperate Stephanie accepts a secondary job guarding her secretive and mouthwatering mentor Ranger from a deadly Special Forces adversary. While Stephanie is notorious for finding trouble, she may have found a little more than she bargained for this time around. Then again a little food poisoning, some threatening notes, and a bridesmaid’s dress with an excess of taffeta never killed anyone or did they? If Stephanie Plum wants to bring in a paycheck, she’ll have to remember: No guts, no glory.

About the Author

Janet Evanovich is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, the Lizzy and Diesel series, twelve romance novels, the Alexandra Barnaby novels and Troublemaker graphic novels, and How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author.

My Review:

In this book Stephanie focuses more on her relationship with Joe even though Ranger has a bigger role in this one.

I really enjoyed the part when Stephanie is Ranger's bodyguard and helps him figure who is leaving threatening letters.  I also enjoyed the Cubbin plotline which was quite interesting and Lulu and grandma were hilarious as ever.

Alex Cross, Run [Hardcover]

I've read "Alex Cross, Run" the book in his Alex Cross series by James Patterson.

Product Description
DON'T LOOK, ALEX CROSS

Top plastic surgeon Elijah Creem is renowned for his skills in the operating room, and for his wild, no-expense-spared "industry parties," bringing in underage exotic dancers and models for nights of drugs, champagne, and uninhibited sex. That is, until Detective Alex Cross busts one of Creem's lavish soirees and ruins his fun. Now Creem is willing to do anything to avoid going to jail.

DON'T THINK, ALEX CROSS

But Alex doesn't have time to dwell on that case. A beautiful woman has been found murdered in her car, a lock of her hair viciously ripped off. Then a second woman is found hanging from a sixth-floor window with a brutal scar slashed across her stomach. When a third mutilated body is discovered, rumors of three serial killers on the loose send Washington D.C. into an all-out frenzy.

JUST RUN

Alex is under so much pressure to solve these three grim cases that he hasn't noticed that someone else investigating him - someone so obsessed and so twisted that they'll do anything - ANYTHING - to get the vengeance they require. Alex Cross, Run is James Patterson's most unrelenting story yet-a white-hot, sensational thrill ride with the most extreme and gripping characters Patterson has ever brought to life.

Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson's books have sold more than 240 million copies. My Review:

The book opens with Alex Cross raiding Elijah Creem's lavish party full of underage girls, guys, drugs, champagne and uninhabited sex.  Elijah is the #1 top well renowned plastic surgeon and when Alex ruins his fun he is determined to do anything to avoid going to jail.  He has recruited his best friend from college Bergman an owner of an modelling agency to help him in his sick and demented killing games.

Also someone is stalking and hunting Alex and his family while on a killing spree.  He enjoys taunting Alex,  follows him to crime scenes and even provokes him to action for his own sick and twisted pleasure.

Elijah is one sick and perverted man who loves underage girls and he has a game with his friend to up one another.  The crime scenes are pretty brutal in nature.

Joshua is sick and perverted who loves underage boys and his crimes are pretty brutal in nature since he likes to stab a certain area of the anatomy many times in a cruel way.

Guidice is a sick psycho who wants to make Alex suffer before killing him.  His crime scenes are pretty brutal too but not as bad as the other two.  He's out for revenge because he blames Alex for the death of his fiancee.
